Park revitalization process
Join Friends of Wadsworth Park
On October 1st, 2007, the community met to identify issues and opportunities in Wadsworth Park, located on Laughton Ave., just south of St. Clair West Ave. The community members completed a Park Safety Audit and the results led to 29 Wadsworth Park recommentations.pdf. A meeting followed with GreenHere, a representative from Councillor Palacio's office, Mike Foderick and the Etobicoke-York Parks Manager to review and plan the initiatives that could be implemented in the short and long term.
Since that initial meeting several issues have been addressed such as regular park clean-ups by Carleton Village students under the guidance of their new principal, Curtis Ennis. A new community bulletin board and park signs have been installed and new seating added. GreenHere’s tree festival in September 2008 was held in the park to celebrate and recognize all of the changes made since.
From ‘yucky’ to ‘wow’
In response to the turnout at the first park safety audit meeting, two local residents initiated a local listserv group, Friends of Wadsworth Park. This is similar to other local community-based parks groups such as Friends of Dovercourt Park and Friends of Dufferin Grove Park in Toronto. If you are a resident or work in the Carleton Village area, please join the Wadsworth Park neighbourhood e-mail listserv: http://groups.google.com/group/wadsworth-park
