The number of smog alerts and smog days in Ontario has increased in the last decade.  In 2005 fifteen smog advisories were issued that covered a total of 53 days, one of which was during the first week of February—the first winter smog advisory ever recorded in Canada. GreenHere works with community stakeholders to promote tree stewardship and urban forestation

GreenHere’s reforestation projects are designed to reduce barriers, to mobilize communities, to ensure the urban forest survives, and to provide long-term health and environmental benefits to all residents. In order to achieve this, GreenHere involves the community in the planning and implementation of community improvements, providing residents with the resources to create positive change. The simple act of engaging community members in environmental issues can result in enhanced neighbourhood cohesion, and cooperation, the growth and development of local leadership, responsibility and pride as well as newly revitalized green spaces.
