GreenHere: Community Reforestation & Greening Initiatives

Picture
The benefits of more trees to a community are many, and GreenHere would like to help communities, organizations, and individuals develop the urban forest in their neighbourhood with train-the-trainer workshops, downloadable tools, manuals and sample materials.

GreenHere envisions a thriving urban forest created and sustained through an engaging and accessible stewardship process, optimizing public space and land usage in marginalized communities.

Environmental issues disproportionately affect the health of marginalized communities, which face barriers to social and environmental change. GreenHere's reforestation project in Davenport models how reforestation can begin to improve the overall health of lower income neighbourhoods, enhancing equity and agency for communities throughout Toronto. The intersection of environmental and community health needs to be recognized formally and holistically, and GreenHere attempts to accomplish this through raising awareness about the many benefits of increased green space, large canopy trees, and community engagement.

GREENHERE HAS A NEW INITIATIVE: PLAYBYNATURE

After a decade of neighbourhood greening efforts where children have been our natural allies, we are turning our attention to these important players in the ecology of our city.
